DeSean Jackson Joins Delaware State University as Head Football Coach
Big changes are coming to Delaware State University football! NFL star DeSean Jackson, known for his electrifying plays and record-breaking career, is stepping into the role of head coach. This announcement, made by Tony Tucker, the university’s new Athletic Director, has sparked excitement across the DSU community.
A Fresh Start with Big Goals
For Jackson, this is more than just a coaching gig—it’s a chance to make a real difference. “The opportunity to help write another chapter here at DSU is a once-in-a-lifetime moment,” he shared. His plan? To build a culture of mentorship, accountability, and success both on and off the field.
Jackson, who grew up in Los Angeles and played 15 seasons in the NFL, knows what it takes to compete at the highest level. His career included stints with teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens, and now he’s ready to bring that same energy and experience to DSU.
Support from the Football World
Jackson’s move into coaching has the backing of some big names in football. Andy Reid, head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, calls him “a fierce competitor and a quality leader.” Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams highlights Jackson’s love for the game and his ability to inspire. Even Jackson’s uncle, DSU alumnus and NFL legend John Taylor, is excited to see the impact his nephew will have on the program.
What This Means for DSU
This hire is part of a larger push to take DSU athletics to the next level. With a $25-$30 million investment in facilities and programs, including a state-of-the-art indoor training center and updates to Alumni Stadium, the university is committed to giving its student-athletes the resources they need to thrive.
DSU President Dr. Tony Allen says the time is now: “We no longer dream big dreams. We are in execution mode.”
The Next Chapter Starts Soon
DeSean Jackson will officially step into his role at a press conference on January 8, 2025, at the MLK Student Center. For DSU students, alumni, and fans, it’s an exciting time to be part of the Hornets family.
Jackson sums it up best: “If we build the right culture at Delaware State University, we’ll attract the right talent and change the trajectory of this program. I can’t wait to get started.”
